Columbian Exchange Part Deux

A talk with Lisa (cooperating teacher) brought comfort following the Columbian Exchange Ordeal. We decided to do an entire unit (which Lisa has done before). I am grading the final assessments this weekend and the connections they made make me happy. We listened, talked, moved, drew, read, wrote, and connected.

A cool visual
The downside is we have less time to spend on colonization and the build-up to the Revolution, but most of the students have had exposure to this content. They have heard of colonies. Most have heard of the Revolution. Most adults haven't given much thought to the Columbian Exchange. You can read about it yourself here. No, really, click. I'll wait.

We had so much fun I decided to scrap the unit plan I was writing up for my seminar and do this one instead.

The coming week will see the end of my student teaching experience. I will do some observation and meet with another teacher for a permanent sub job to finish the school year. Lately I feel a little like I'm in a New World, myself. The exchange of ideas has been rich, and I am the better for it.

  1. I promise to go back and click on that thing! Glad you found some happiness while grading the assessment. Always nice to see that connections were made and maybe even some appreciation for the content developed!
